Climbing Gear Recalled in Germany
The product's webbing can weaken, posing an unrecognized fall risk to users, according to the latest Rapex recalls report, which said one fatality associated with this product has been reported.
German-made climbing gear has been recalled in that country following one reported fatal accident, according to the Sept. 14 recall notice from the European Commission's RAPEX team. It reports the recalled EDELRID Via ferrata sets of climbing gear were manufactured from 2010 to 2012.
The products' polyamide webbing "could be partially destroyed by the mechanical action of deposited dirt particles and be weakened as a result." This can happen under normal conditions when no fall is involved as the webbing stretches and retracts back to shape. The degradation may not be noticed by users and could lead to a failure during an actual fall, according to the notice.
The products do not comply with the EU Personal Protective Equipment Directive, it notes.
Many of the recalled items listed in this report were Intenze tattoo inks in various hues that were recalled in Italy.
