Seven Companies Fined for Exposing Employees to Asbestos
After inspection of a construction site, OSHA has fined the companies a total of $148,000.
Seven companies have been cited by OSHA for exposing workers to asbestos hazards at a San Antonio construction site. The companies face up to $148,000 in proposed fines as a result.
After the Texas Department of State Health Services referred the companies to OSHA in March for inspection, it was discovered that crews remodeling an apartment complex were not using proper clothing or respiratory equipment needed for asbestos protection, in addition to failing to monitor the air quality. Workers also were not properly trained in working with asbestos.
Three of the companies are contractors based in Miami, and the other four are San Antonio-based subcontractors. OSHA filed a total of 45 serious violations and one other-than-serious violation.
