A free online resource offers insight into developing mental health and safety on college campuses."Balancing Safety and Support on Campus: A Guide for Campus Teams" is being offered nationwide to college campuses in an effort to deter tragedies like the Virginia Tech shooting and improve the overall mental health at institutes of higher learning.
This effort by the Higher Education Mental Health Alliance (HEMHA) focuses on developing teams on campuses to properly identify and assist students struggling with mental health problems.
While mass violence on some campuses may garner the most attention from the media, suicides are upward of 75 percent more common among college students.
The program, created by a group of national experts, will help teams understand the importance of early identification of students needing assistance.
