Gas Facility Cited After Explosion Injures Worker
Plains Gas Solutions LLC has been fined $111,000 by OSHA for eight violations stemming from in a February explosion.
After a February explosion, a gas company in Eunice, La. has been fined $111,000 by OSHA for several alleged safety violations. Plains Gas Solutions LLC, a producer of liquefied natural gas, was cited with one willful violation and seven serious violations.
“OSHA began its investigation Feb. 29 at the company's facility on Fournat Road in Eunice, which specializes in the production of liquid natural gas through a cryogenic process,” OSHA said in a statement released on its website. “The incident occurred while employees were restarting the process. Cryogenic liquids were improperly routed through equipment not rated to withstand extreme cold temperatures, resulting in the explosion and fire.”
One worker was severely injured in the explosion at the Plains Gas facility, which is a subsidiary of Plains All American Pipeline LP in Houston. The company employs around 3,800 workers in Alabama, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. For a full account of the citations against the company, see them here on OSHA’s website.
