MSHA Retooling Its Website

The site averages more than 11 million hits per month, and the agency says its most popular pages include the Mine Data Retrieval System, Online Filing, News Releases, and single source pages.

The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration is giving online visitors a opportunity to review the new design of its homepage and asks visitors to email suggestions to [email protected]. It's likely millions of people will see the new design because the agency's page showcasing it says www.msha.gov currently receives an average of 11 million hits per month.

The agency says its most popular pages include the Mine Data Retrieval System, Online Filing, News Releases, and single source pages.

Frequent visitors see a variety of new information each day, including safety alerts, accident reports, grants information, product recall notices, enforcement statistics, and more offerings concerning the more than 14,000 mines MSHA inspects annually.

"It is a big job to keep this volume of data and information current every day and respond to the public's right to know. For example, over the past two years MSHA has responded to about 4,000 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. We continue to work to place as much information as possible on the MSHA website," the page states.
