Gel Fire Bowl Recalled in Britain

A decorative gel fuel fire bowl has been recalled in the United Kingdom because it poses an unacceptable risk of burns to consumers using it, the European Union's RAPEX rapid alert system announced in its Aug. 17 recall newsletter.
The newsletter is a weekly overview of consumer products posing serious risks and voluntarily withdrawn from EU markets or recalled. In this case, the Slemcka fire bowl, model 4591, was both withdrawn and recalled because authorities concluded the flame may be difficult to see and could flash if more fuel is added while the bowl is lit or still warm.
"Fuel is not provided with this particular product, which also increases the risk by lack of instruction, and the snuffer is smaller than the well, so if consumers poured fuel directly into the pot the snuffer is of no use. Lit fuel also can flare," the newsletter stated.
