Suggestions Sought for Mobile-izing www.dol.com
The U.S. Labor Department seeks suggestions from the public about how to make more government services and information accessible on mobile devices.
The U.S. Department of Labor is asking for suggestions from the public on how it can make its services and information more accessible to those using mobile devices. In an Aug. 2 post on the department's Work in Progress blog, Andy Bailey, director of the Division of Enterprise Communications, explains this effort responds to the federal Chief Information Officer's digital strategy to improve how the U.S. government purchases and uses information technology, including making more government services more accessible.
"We're improving mobile access to www.dol.gov, and we want your help," Bailey writes. "You can assist in shaping the department's approach to a more mobile government. As we begin our efforts to deliver content and services anytime, anywhere, and on any device, we want to know where you think we should start. What existing Department of Labor website or online service would you like to see optimized for mobile devices first? Please go to our blog and add your ideas."
His post includes a list of the four primary objectives of the federal CIO's strategy:
- Enable the American people and an increasingly mobile workforce to access high-quality digital government information and services any time, anywhere, on any device.
- Procure and manage devices, applications, and data in smart, secure, affordable ways.
- Unlock the power of government data to spur innovation and improve the quality of services for the public.
- Innovate with less to deliver better digital services.
Bailey asks commenters to help by saying which existing DOL website or online service they'd like to see optimized for mobile devices first.
