CSB Releases New Five-Year Plan
The plan includes a Most Wanted Program, similar to NTSB's list.
The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board has released its 2012–2016 strategic plan, which was unanimously approved by CSB board members and is posted on the agency's website, www.csb.gov.
"The CSB's strategic plan contains 13 strategic objectives that enable the agency to work towards its mission of accident prevention. The plan builds on the agency's legislative mandate and includes an updated mission and vision statement," CSB Chairperson Dr. Rafael Moure-Eraso said.
Stakeholders in industry, academia, and other government agencies were consulted on the plan. It includes a CSB Most Wanted Program, similar to the National Transportation Safety Board's list, that will allow the CSB to focus on progress on its key recommendations. The plan focuses on three main goals: Conduct incident investigations and safety studies concerning releases of hazardous chemical substances, improve safety and environmental protection by ensuring recommendations are implemented and by broadly disseminating findings through advocacy and outreach, and preserve the public trust by maintaining and improving organizational excellence.
