Standards Central to Future Motor Vehicles
The February 2012 issue of ISO Focus+, the magazine of the International Organization for Standardization, will be distributed at next month's Fully Networked Car workshop during the Geneva International Motor Show.
Building efficient and safe electric vehicles and developing intelligent transport systems to make roadways much safer both depend on adhering to international standards. The extent to which standards influence this industry is discussed by several automotive leaders in the February 2012 issue of ISO Focus+, the magazine of the International Organization for Standardization. The issue will be distributed at next month's Fully Networked Car workshop during the Geneva International Motor Show.
"We do need standards; the world needs standards. Standards help an enterprise manage business-critical issues, such as quality, environmental performance, and safety," says Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat and Chrysler Group, in an interview in the issue. This will be the seventh workshop focused on the car of the future and the intelligent transport system needed to support it. Executives from Audi, Bentley Motors, and Kia Motors also discuss their companies' perspectives on the benefits of standards implementation as the companies race to develop high-efficiency vehicles and the systems to support them.
Articles cover topics ranging from ITS and accident reduction to driver assistance systems, on-board diagnostics, pollution, the costs of oil, and ISO standards for hybrid and electric cars and alternative fuels.
