The grant will be used to award six scholarships in the amount of $5,250 each in 2012 to students studying in the field of safety, health, and the environment (SH&E).
The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation received a $35,000 grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS. The grant will be used to award six scholarships in the amount of $5,250 each in 2012 to students studying in the field of safety, health, and the environment (SH&E).
Four scholarships will be awarded to a junior or senior year college student pursuing an undergraduate degree in SH&E, and two will be awarded to junior or senior year college SH&E students from a minority ethnic background. All recipients will have the opportunity to be recognized at ASSE’s annual Professional Development Conference and Exposition, Safety 2012, June 3-6 in Denver.
Scholarship applicants must be full-time students pursuing a B.S. in occupational safety and health or a related field. Applicants must be members of ASSE, have a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 system, be in good academic standing, and be recommended by a safety faculty member. Students are encouraged to apply annually for scholarships from Sept. 1 to Dec. 1 of each year.
“UPS continues to be a leader in the support and growth of the ASSE Foundation,” said ASSE Foundation Chair Eddie Greer, CSP, OHST. “This grant helps develop future safety professionals who play a key role in preventing work injuries and illnesses.”
