7,100 Snowmobiles and 14,000 Toasters Recalled

The hazard for the Arctic Cat Inc. 2102 F, XF, and M models is that their headlamp fuse can fail, which the company found during production testing. The Hamilton Beach Brands Inc. toasters can begin heating as soon as they're plugged in.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced two fairly large safety recalls on Dec. 15, one involving about 7,100 Arctic Cat Inc. snowmobiles and the other involving about 14,000 toasters from Hamilton Beach Brands Inc. The headlamp of the snowmobiles can fail, posing a crash risk, and the toasters' heating element can be energized as soon as they are plugged in, regardless of the position of the toasters' lifter.

Hamilton Beach received five reports of this, but no injuries or property damage was reported, according to the commission. Its release said Arctic Cat Inc., based in Thief River Falls, Minn., discovered the problem in its 2012 F, XF, and M model snowmobiles during production testing of them. There have been no reports of headlamp failures or injuries, CPSC said.

Recalled snowmobiles can be identified by the last six numerals of the Vehicle Identification Number in the following ranges: 105092 through 112175 or 800001 through 800033. The model name is located on each side of the hood. The snowmobiles come in a various color combinations: Black, White and Orange, Black and Orange, and Black and Green. They were sold at Arctic Cat dealerships nationwide from May 2011 through September 2011 for about $10,500 to $13,000. Consumers should stop using them immediately and contact a local dealer for a free repair. For information, call Arctic Cat at 800-279-6851 or visit www.arctic-cat.com.

The recall by Hamilton Beach(Glen Allen, Va.) involves model 22602 toasters; the model number is printed on the bottom of the toaster. The toasters a were sold at mass merchandisers and department, grocery, and home center stores nationwide from August 2011 through November 2011 for between $19 and $34. Some of them were sent to consumers as replacements for model 22600 toasters recalled in June 2011.
