EPA Strengthening Underground Storage Tank Rules
The agency has proposed a rule that would add secondary containment requirements for new and replaced tanks and piping, as well as adding operator training requirements.
A new proposed rule from EPA will strengthen the 1988 underground storage tank technical, financial responsibility, and state program approval regulations.
Proposed changes include adding secondary containment requirements for new and replaced tanks and piping; adding operator training requirements; adding periodic operation and maintenance requirements for UST systems; adding new release prevention and detection technologies; updating codes of practice; and updating state program approval requirements. The agency said it expects these changes will protect human health and the environment by preventing underground storage tank releases and quickly detecting them if they do occur.
