NSC Heads to Orlando for 'Celebration of a Century'
Next year, the council will head south to sunny Florida for “Celebration of a Century,” the kick-off event leading up to NSC’s 100-year anniversary in 2013.
The historic Pennsylvania Convention Center, located in the heart of downtown Philadelphia, successfully hosted more than 12,000 EH&S professionals who attended last week’s NSC Congress & Expo. Next year, the council will head south to sunny Florida for “Celebration of a Century,” the kick-off event leading up to NSC’s 100-year anniversary in 2013. The event will be Oct. 21-26 (with the Expo taking place Oct. 22-24) at the sprawling Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.
The 7-million-square-foot Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) has more than enough space to accommodate NSC’s exhibitors and attendees. The facility, located 12 miles from the Orlando International Airport, boasts more than 2 million square feet of exhibit space, 74 meeting rooms, and eight food courts. In addition, the center hosts more than three million visitors every year. Here’s a fun fact: If Chicago’s Willis Tower (formerly known as Sears Tower) was placed on its side, it would fit lengthwise inside OCCC’s exhibition space.
Orlando, the fifth largest city in Florida, is one of the most-visited tourist destinations in the world. Outside of the convention center walls, attendees will be minutes from Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Studios Orlando, SeaWorld, and LegoLand. In addition to its family-friendly attractions, Orlando’s average annual temperature is 82 degrees Fahrenheit—all the more reason for attendees to take advantage of the city’s sights at the end of the day.
NSC’s 2013 centennial celebration, “Safety Agenda for the Nation,” will be Sept. 29-Oct. 4, 2012, in Chicago.
