FEMA Advisory Council Meeting Sept. 14

The panel is working to develop a national preparedness goal that identifies the core capabilities necessary for preparedness, in response to a presidential directive.

FEMA's responsiveness and funds have been tested this year, notably by tornadoes in the spring and then Hurricane Irene's damage in the eastern United States last weekend. Meanwhile, the agency's National Advisory Council is working to develop a national preparedness goal in response to a presidential directive issued in March 2011, and the council will meet Sept. 14 to continue that effort.

The council will hold a two-hour public meeting by teleconference to discuss Presidential Policy Directive 8 on National Preparedness. The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. EDT; the council is accepting comments until Sept. 2 at www.regulations.gov, docket number FEMA-2007-0008, or via e-mail to [email protected]. (Include the docket number in the subject line of the message.)

The draft national preparedness goal has been posted in that docket on the regulations.gov website.
