NIOSH Director Dr. John Howard

NORA Symposium's Plenary Sessions Being Broadcast Live

They can be viewed beginning at 8:30 a.m. EDT both July 12 and July 13. Taking place in Cincinnati, the 7th Symposium will showcase excellence in OSH research and how it may be applied to prevent injuries and illnesses.

The plenary sessions for next week's National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) Symposium by NIOSH will be broadcast live and also subsequently available as videos to be viewed later, the agency announced.

"NORA Symposium 2011: Achieving Impact through Research and Partnerships," looks at the many partnerships fostered during NORA's second decade. Sponsors are NIOSH, the University of Cincinnati's Department of Environmental Health, and the University of Cincinnati Education and Research Center.

The program is packed with high-value sessions, including the July 12 keynote by Dr. Jim Dearing of Kaiser Permanente and the July 13 keynote by OSHA's Dr. David Michaels. Another high point will be Jordan Barab, OSHA's deputy assistant secretary, speaking July 13 on "Workplace Safety and Health: The Next 40 Years."

Invitation-only NORA Sector Council Meetings will take place July 14.

The event's program, available here, includes abstracts of the many posters included in the symposium on a wide range of topics, from construction, vibration, health care, and respiratory diseases to prevention through design and PPE.

The plenary sessions will be available for viewing at 8:30 a.m. EDT to noon and 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. EDT on July 12, and also at 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. EDT July 13. Viewers outside of NIOSH and CDC can watch the video at https://www.team-psa.com/NORA2011/program.asp; viewers inside NIOSH and CDC should watch the video via IPTV (through the CDC Intranet) or on site at the Morgantown Conference room L4A, Pittsburgh Conference Room 140 VC, or Atlanta Conference room 4513-NIOSH Bldg 2400 (Century). NIOSH/CDC staff working off site and accessing the web via CITGO the day of the meeting should access it through https://www.team-psa.com/NORA2011/program.asp and not CITGO/IPTV.
