Time Running Out to Comment on Lower Coal Dust Limit

MHSA has granted a little more time -- until midnight Eastern time on June 20 -- for stakeholders to submit comments about its proposed rule to lower miners' exposure to respirable coal mine dust and to require the use of continuous personal dust monitors. The proposed rule was published Oct. 19, 2010 (75 FR 64412), and the comment period already has been extended; it would have end May 31, hand this third extension not been granted.

Comments must be identified with RIN 1219-AB64 and can be submitted via http://www.regulations.gov, faxed to 202-693-9441, or mailed to MSHA, Office of Standards, Regulations, and Variances, 1100 Wilson Blvd., Room 2350, Arlington, VA 22209-3939.

MSHA will post all comments at http://www.msha.gov/currentcomments.asp.

On May 19, MSHA posted historical data on respirable coal mine dust at its End Black Lung -- ACT NOW! Single Source Web page.
