EOBRs, Wellness on Tank Truckers' Agenda

The 63rd Annual Conference & Exhibits of the National Tank Truck Carriers Inc. will take place May 22-24 in Baltimore, with FMCSA Administrator Anne Ferro speaking at the annual safety awards luncheon.

Two of the biggest issues for trucking companies at present are the pending hours of service revision, which the American Trucking Associations opposes, and health concerns for commercial drivers, including sleep apnea. The 63rd Annual Conference & Exhibits of the National Tank Truck Carriers Inc. will explore these when it takes place May 22-24 in Baltimore, with FMCSA Administrator Anne Ferro speaking at the annual safety awards luncheon set for May 24.

The exhibit hall will be open all three days. There are is a health and wellness presentation scheduled for 9:30 a.m. May 24 by Wendy Sullivan, RN, vice president of project implementation for Precision Pulmonary Diagnostics and former occupational health manager for Schneider National, a large trucking company. FMCSA Administrator Anne Ferro is scheduled to speak during the May 24 annual safety awards luncheon, which is sponsored by Heil.

A panel discussion set for 11 a.m. May 24 involves executives discusses electronic onboard recorders (EOBRs), which are not yet required by FMCSA but are installed on many commercial vehicles by their owners. EOBRs collect data about truck operations and driver hours and are useful in complying with current or revised hours of service regulations. Another presentation about EOBRs on May 23 will be delivered by Robert Franklin, principal in the Baltimore office of Franklin & Prokopik, a law firm with a national reputation for its expertise in trucking issues.
