Material Handling Firm Opens New Robotics Lab
The 5,050-square-foot Alvey Robotics Lab at Intelligrated's St. Louis facility will develop new products and allow customers to see tests and demonstrations prior to installation, according to the company.
R&D on the automated material handling solutions offered by Intelligrated has been boosted by the opening of the Cincinnati-based company's Alvey Robotics Lab, a 5,050-square-foot laboratory at the company's St. Louis engineering and manufacturing facility.
The company announced the opening May 5, saying research and development in the new lab will focus on advancing robotics in palletizing, depalletizing, case packing, picking and placing, and more. The work is headed by the company's Robotics Integration Group and will emphasize innovations in end-of-arm tooling, vision systems, operator interface, controls, and the development of associated equipment, it said.
Besides allowing customers to see tests and demonstrations prior to installation, the lab will provide educational opportunities for local students and universities.
"Our goal is to ensure that Intelligrated continues to lead the material handling market in robotic solutions," said Executive Vice President Steve Ackerman. "The new lab will increase credibility for the use of robotics in material handling applications by providing concrete evidence that these solutions are not just theoretical, but viable, effective, and profitable solutions for this industry."
