FDA Meeting Focused on Controls for Food Facilities
The agency is offering a webcast of the April 20 event, which is part of its outreach to help food facilities and entities meet the requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act.
FDA is hosting an all-day meeting April 20 in Silver Spring, Md., titled FDA Food Safety Modernization Act: Focus on Preventive Controls for Facilities. Top speakers from the agency’s food safety elements will speak about preventive controls this new law requires.
The act was signed into law Jan. 4, 2011. It shifts the focus of federal agencies from responding to contamination to preventing it, and FDA has offered assistance to the affected entities in various ways, including webcasts. This April 20 meeting is available as a live webcast to those who register at http://www.blsmeetings.net/FDAPreventiveControls.
Those attending in person can take part in 75-minute breakout sessions to discuss preventive controls guidance, on-farm manufacturing and small business, product testing and environmental monitoring, and training and technical assistance. FDA speakers will include Michael Taylor, deputy commissioner for foods; and Murray Lumpkin, deputy commissioner for international programs.
