AGC Names 2011 Construction Safety Grand Award Winner
URS Energy and Construction, part of San Francisco-based URS Corp., received the award during AGC's annual convention last week in Las Vegas.
URS Energy and Construction, part of URS Corp., received the Grand Award in Associated General Contractors of America's 2011 Construction Safety Excellence Award competition. Awards were presented to 48 companies during AGC's 92nd annual convention last week in Las Vegas, when AGC welcomed its first female president.
URS Corp. is based in San Francisco and has about 47,000 employees. It provides program management, design, engineering, construction, construction management, and other services to clients in more than 40 countries. URS Energy and Construction was entered in the heavy construction category with more than 1 million man-hours. More than 100 firms competed in this year's competition, according to AGC.
The awards program recognizes companies for implementing excellent safety and loss prevention programs that involve management commitment, employee involvement, and program innovation.
The new president is Kristine Young, CEO of Des Moines-based Miller the Driller, who was sworn in March 25. As president, she will oversee AGC's advocacy for measures to boost demand for construction activity nationwide. Other new officers are Joseph Jarboe, senior vice president of Clark Construction Group, Bethesda, Md., serving as senior vice president; Paul Diederich, president of Industrial Builders, Inc., West Fargo, N.D., as vice president; and Howard Pebley, president of McAllen Construction, Inc., McAllen, Texas, as treasurer.
