3M Acquires Lead Test Maker
Terms of its acquisition of Hybrivet Systems Inc. weren't disclosed. The company's LeadCheck Swabs were the first test kit recognized under the EPA Renovation, Repair and Painting rule.
3M announced Feb. 17 that is has acquired Hybrivet Systems Inc., a Natick, Mass.-based provider of instant-read products to detect lead and other contaminants and toxins. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Hybrivet Systems' flagship product is LeadCheck Swabs, which was the first instant test kit recognized by EPA under the Renovation, Repair and Painting rule that went into effect April 20, 2010.
"The LeadCheck products complement and build on our paint preparation, tape, and safety businesses and broaden our product offerings in the paint aisle," said Jack Truong, vice president and general manager of the 3M Construction and Home Improvement Markets Division. 3M said adding Hybrivet Systems gives it immediate access to the potentially large market for testing paints for lead in older houses and commercial buildings to meet the new lead-safe work practices regulations.
Hybrivet Systems was founded in 1987 by Marcia Stone, Ph.D. It offers a series of instant-read detection products.
