Acquisition Brings New Chemical Compliance Company to the Fore

RightAnswer.com, Inc. recently acquired the Corporate Solutions group of Thomson Reuters' Healthcare & Science business, bringing it platforms that sell knowledge databases used by hospitals, first responders, industrial hygienists, chemical manufacturers, and others.

A meeting around five years ago at a Society for Chemical Hazard Communication meeting has blossomed into an acquisition for RightAnswer.com, Inc. of Midland, Mich. The company provides Software-as-a-Service solutions. It has acquired the Corporate Solutions group of Thomson Reuters' Healthcare & Science business, bringing it platforms that sell knowledge databases used by hospitals, first responders, hazmat teams, industrial hygienists, chemical manufacturers, safety managers, and others.

The searchable databases include MSDSs, state and federal regulatory compliance information, the NIOSH Pocket Guide, toxicity information, and much more.

"It's going to allow us to really expand," said Glen Markham, who joined from Thomson Reuters and now handles international business development for RightAnswer. He said the Thomson Reuters group had about 300 customers and its addition roughly doubles RightAnswer's size. Markham said representatives of the two companies first met at that SCHC meeting and agreed they might be able to work together. When Thomson Reuters eventually decided to divest the Corporate Solutions group, the alliance was completed.

Asked how first responders would use the service in the field, he said they would bring a CD in their Toughbook computer to a hazmat scene to research the toxicity of a spilled hazmat. They'd also have Internet access back at their fire station. The CDs are continuously updated, with RightAnswer sending out main releases quarterly, Markham said.
