Election Season Nears for ASSE, AIHA

Both associations announced slates of candidates this week.

The American Society of Safety Engineers' and the American Industrial Hygiene Association's 2011 elections are about to begin, with slates of candidates announced last week.

ASSE voting takes place March 1 through March 31, with contested races for senior vice president (a one-year term), vice president of professional affairs (two years), and vice president of professional development (two years). Four regions' vice presidential slots also are contested this year (Regions I, III, V, and VII), all for two-year terms. Results will be announced April 15. The position of senior vice president is important because this person moves up to president-elect and then president in subsequent years.

The AIHA election also takes place in March. Two candidates are vying for vice president and two for treasurer-elect. Four candidates are on the ballot for the AIHA Board of Directors. Directors serve a three-year term. The treasurer-elect serves a one-year term followed by a two-year term as treasurer, and the vice president automatically progresses to president-elect, then president, and then past-president in succeeding years. The winners' terms of office will start May 19 at the end of the business meeting held during AIHce 2011 in Portland, Ore.
