NACOSH to Hear I2P2 Update in January
Although whatever window OSHA has to enact an injury and illness prevention programs requirement may well be closing, the Jan. 19-20 meeting in Washington, D.C., will include a discussion by OSHA and NIOSH staffs.
OSHA's National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health is scheduled to hear an update on Gulf of Mexico oil spill response and a discussion of recordkeeping issues by OSHA and NIOSH staffs when the committee meets Jan. 19 and 20 in Washington, D.C.
OSHA's published agenda for the public meeting at U.S. Department of Labor headquarters, 200 Constitution Avenue NW, also includes comments by OSHA and NIOSH leaders Dr. David Michaels and Dr. John Howard and a discussion by OSHA and NIOSH staffs of injury and illness prevention programs.
Michaels wants to enact an injury and illness prevention programs (I2P2) regulation, but this may not be possible in the near term. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which successfully supported many congressional candidates who helped the Republicans gain control of the House of Representatives for the next Congress, has staked out an opposing position, saying the proposal might force many employers to make an expensive change in their procedures.
