Oregon OSHA was closed on Nov. 26, but the good news is that this was the final unpaid furlough day of the year for workers in that and numerous other Oregon state agencies because of budget cuts. Two furlough Fridays in 2011 already have been designated: March 18 and May 20. (Oregon OSHA is a state plan agency that is part of the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services.)

Many states across the country shut the majority of their state agencies on Nov. 26 for budgetary reasons. Arizona has one more day upcoming this year of unpaid employee furloughs, Dec. 23, and has scheduled six for most agencies in 2011: June 10, July 22, Aug. 19, Sept. 16, Nov. 25, and Dec. 23.
