CTAA Launches Employee Transportation Programs Website

The Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA) announced the launch of its Transportation to Work: A Toolkit for the Business Community website. The online resource offers companies information on how to build simple, cost-effective transportation programs that are good for their employees, their businesses, and the environment.

The Toolkit’s online format provides information on a variety of topics such as tax incentives, shared ride programs, support for a diverse workforce, green transportation, and vanpool options, among others.

Commenting on the website, Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood said, “Especially during challenging economic times, when so many businesses are struggling, the CTAA Transportation to Work Toolkit is a valuable resource to build an employee transportation program that is a win-win for all.”

“This practical set of materials can help businesses of all sizes to support their workers’ commute with employee transportation programs,” said Carolyn Jeskey, CTAA Joblinks Director. “The Toolkit gives companies the knowledge and resources they need to build transportation programs that are easy to implement and inexpensive to maintain.”

CTAA said studies show that employers who provide transportation benefits for their workforce also gain rewards in other ways, such as attracting and retaining workers, being recognized as an environmentally and worker friendly company, and increasing customer access to goods and services. “For members of the community with specialized mobility needs, such as people with disabilities, older workers, youth and low-income earners, transportation is often the link that makes employment in good jobs possible,” said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis.

The website is organized into four subject areas: Good for Business, Getting to Work, Going Green, and Accessible Transportation. In addition, the site houses profiles of companies that have successfully implemented employee transportation programs, such as REI, Nike, Apple, Chevron, Cornell University, and Walgreens, among others.

CTAA is a national professional membership association of organizations and individuals committed to removing barriers to isolation and improving mobility for all people. CTAA houses the Joblinks Transportation Center, a resource supported by Federal Transit Administration and U.S. Department of Labor funds, which promotes effective employment transportation options across the country.
