OSHA Chief Discusses Safety Incentives

If you're planning to attend next week's ASSE Professional Development Conference in Baltimore but do not want to wait to hear OSHA Administrator Dr. David Michaels present his Plenary Session on Monday, June 14, well, you have to. But meanwhile, to help the long hours pass until Safety 2010 commences, ASSE has made available a free, hour-long webinar with the OSHA leader that the society hosted just last month.

Titled "A Conversation with Assistant Secretary for OSHA Dr. David Michaels -- What to Do About Safety Incentives?" the event featured Michaels answering questions and responding to comments from ASSE members and others on the topic of how to determine the difference between appropriate and inappropriate safety incentives in the workplace and how to address inappropriate incentives. About 1,500 people registered for the live airing. You can experience the event (or relive it) at no charge by going to http://eventcenter.commpartners.com/se/Meetings/Playback.aspx?meeting.id=504812.

Michaels expressed an interest in talking with those in the safety and health profession about the challenging issues facing his agency and the OHS industry in general. He added he was looking forward to continuing that dialogue at Safety 2010. His Plenary Session, at which he will be taking questions from PDC attendees, begins Monday at 1 p.m.
