NNI Sets Workshop to Update Strategic Plan
The National Nanotechnology Initiative is inviting stakeholders to the July 13-14 event in Arlington, Va. The update of the plan is scheduled for completion in December 2010.
A stakeholders workshop July 13-14 at the Palomar Hotel in Arlington, Va., has been announced by the National Nanotechnology Initiative as a way to obtain input for the 2010 NNI Strategic Plan. The update is scheduled to be completed in December 2010 and will update the December 2007 strategic plan.
The goals of the workshop are to:
- Bring together those who are new to nanoscale science, engineering, and technology, as well as those familiar with the NNI.
- Obtain stakeholder input on the goals and objectives of the updated strategic plan, which is currently under development.
- Gather suggestions for the U.S. government interagency task force that is drafting the new plan.
The December 2007 strategic plan set four goals for NNI: advance a world-class nanotechnology R&D program; foster the transfer of new technologies into products that offer commercial and public benefit; develop and sustain educational resources, a skilled workforce, and supporting infrastructure and tools to support nanotechnology; and support responsible development of nanotechnology.
NNI recently posted a report titled "Nanotechnology-Enabled Sensing" that is based on a May 2009 workshop in which experts from government, academia, and the private sector participated. The 50-page report describes the state of the art in nanotechnology-enabled sensing and opportunity areas that include medicine, national security, agriculture, energy, and transportation.
