Global Market for Ear Protection Devices to Exceed $861M by 2015: Report

The global market for ear protection devices is expected to cross $861 million by 2015, according to a new market research report from San Jose, Calif.-based Global Industry Analysts Inc. Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) is one of the major avoidable occupational hazards, the report notes, particularly in developing countries, where occupational and environmental noise remains the major risk factor for hearing impairment. Even in developed countries hearing impairment continues to remain a common health disorder, leaving a largely untapped market for the key industry players to exploit, says GIA, a publisher of "off-the-shelf" market research.

According to the study, the market is driven by the fact that more than 120 million workers across the globe are exposed to dangerously high noise levels (over 85 dB). In the United States alone, the report says, more than 30 million workers are exposed to prolonged noise levels in their day-to-day life, with those in metalworking, manufacturing, coalmines, dockyard (fishermen) and construction, and hospitality industries comprising the most highly risk-prone groups.

The report, "Ear Protection Devices: A Global Strategic Business Report," notes that growth in the hearing protection device market is decelerated by the higher cost associated with customized devices that offer a perfect seal for better noise attenuation. Moreover, according to the report, pre-molded ear protection devices fail to provide the perfect acoustic seal for complete protection against noise. Other major concerns associated with the global ear protection devices market include the health hazards associated with prolonged usage of the device and lack of scalable validation science for individual subject fit, which might hamper the growth of the ear protection devices market, the report says.

Key players profiled in the report include 3M Co., ADCO Hearing Products Inc., Amplifon SpA, Centurion Safety Products Limited, DELTA PLUS S.A, Elvex Corp., GN ReSound A/S, Hellberg Safety AB, JSP Ltd., Moldex-Metric Inc., Moldex-Metric AG & Co. KG, Mine Safety Appliances Company, MSA Sordin AB, North Safety Products Europe BV, Oy Silenta Electronics Ltd., Phonak AG, Productos Climax, Radians Inc., Scott Health & Safety Ltd, Siemens Hearing Instruments Inc., Sonic Innovations Inc., Sonomax Hearing Healthcare Inc., Sperian Protection, Starkey Laboratories Inc., and VISPRO Protection SL, among others.

The report is designed to provide a comprehensive industry overview, including product introductions and innovations, profiles of major players, and recent industry activity. It also analyzes market data and provides analytics in value for the global market in the industrial end-user segment.
