ASSE Virtual Symposium to Address Safety Training Issues

The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) will be host to a "Solutions in Safety Training" virtual symposium on Jan. 26-28. The symposium will feature safety training and communications professionals who will explore real-world solutions for developing training that delivers, including a special mini-workshop by trainer Sivasailam "Thiagi" Thiagarajan, Ph.D., on rapid training design.

Symposium attendees will learn to analyze students and the safety training outcomes one wants to achieve; design instructionally powerful safety training solutions more efficiently and at a lower cost; deliver safety training more effectively – learning strategies to help ensure that students can retain and apply what is taught; explore next generation training techniques and practices, from creating interactive activities to exploring technology-based learning solutions; evaluate the effectiveness of safety training solutions and show a return on investment; and, apply training-related safety standards and OSHA training requirements while earning 1.0 CEUs. The virtual symposium can also be accessed from anywhere at any time. Participants can view session recordings at their convenience for up to 30 days after the symposium.

The key topics include: The Safety Training Process (STP) -- from analysis to evaluation, these sessions will provide information on techniques that will help in every stage of the creation of quality safety training; Safety Training 2.0 (ST2.0) -- a session on safety training technology; Measurement, Evaluation and ROI (ROI) -- providing tools and techniques to help illustrate the return on investment for safety training efforts; and, Standards and Practices (S&P) -- sessions devoted to training-related standards and OSHA training requirements.

Attendees also receive a free copy of the book "Safety Training That Delivers: How to Design and Present Better Technical Training" by Sheila Cantonwine, a frequent ASSE presenter; a free electronic copy of the new ANSI/ASSE Z490.1-2009 Standard: "Criteria for Accepted Practices in Safety, Health, and Environmental Training"; and be part of a participatory "Extreme Safety Training Makeover" with the symposium's panel of experts.
