20 Industry Professionals Elected to Fill 26 NSC Posts

Kicking off the 2009 Congress, the National Safety Council announced on Oct. 24 that 15 safety and health leaders from across the United States were elected to serve as council delegates and six new members were elected to serve as trustees.

According to NSC, delegates are entrusted to provide direction on safety and health policy issues while trustees are charged with overseeing the council's development and fundraising activities.

The new delegates are:

Grant Baldwin, director, Division of Unintentional Injury Prevention, National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Atlanta.

Julie Ann Carter, safety manager, Traylor Brothers Inc., Matairie, La.

Kenneth M. Colonna, corporate director of safety and environmental, RSC Equipment Rental, Scottsdale, Ariz.

Robert J. Czincila, chief of staff, (HS-30) Office of Corporate Safety Analysis, U.S. Department of Energy, Germantown, Md.

Debbie Gehricke, global health and safety director, United Parcel Service, Atlanta.

William M. England, director of transportation safety systems, Sysco Corp., Houston.

Rick L. Irwin, local president, IBEW Local 965, Madison, Wis.

John H. Leinart, director of health, wellness and safety, John Deere, Moline, Ill.

Glenn A. Murray, corporate safety programs manager, Exxon Mobil Corp., Irving, Texas.

E. Scott Patterson, manager of loss prevention, Liberty Mutual Agency Markets, Keene, N.H.

Donald A. Robinson, director of environmental, health and safety, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Amherst, Mass.

Arthur Seely, president and CEO, Safety One Inc., Snow Operations Training Center, Sedalia, Colo.

Dennis L. Shinault, director of loss prevention, Baldwin & Lyons Inc., Indianapolis.

Max Waagner, director for global safety, Dawn Food Products Inc., Jackson, Mich.

William R. Williams, vice president of health, safety and environment, Maersk Inc., Charlotte, N.C.

Both Williams and England also are among the newly elected trustees. The four others are:

Constance Bayne, vice president and manager of risk quality assessment, Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., Boston.

Salvatore Caccavale, CHMM, CPEA, global senior manager of EHS, A.M. Castle and Co., Franklin Park, Ill.

Jack D. Furst, partner, HM Capital Partners, Dallas.

Michael Murray, president and CEO, FirstGroup America Inc., Cincinnati.

In addition, NSC elected five new board members to serve one-year terms. Bayne, England, Furst, and Murray won four of those posts; they are joined by James M. Dougherty, chief safety officer/director of safety, security and enforcement for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency. The board of directors is NSC's principal governance body and provides oversight over fiduciary and strategic affairs.
