Company Celebrates 100 Safety Podcasts with Live Recording at NSC

Celebrating the production and publication of 100 podcast episodes on all manner of safety subjects, The Woodlands, Texas-based ProAct Safety Inc. used NSC's 2009 Congress & Expo as the perfect platform for marking the milestone by, what else, making a live recording from the Expo floor. The recording took place this morning at 9:45 a.m. in the demo area, booth #3029.

ProAct President and COO Shawn M. Galloway said reaching the centennial mark has been an educational experience for all involved. In 2002, the company began training what is called an "Internal Consultant." The basic idea was to train a client’s internal employee to design, customize, and implement a behavior-based safety process. However, occasionally the internal consultants didn't have the knowledge or experience in the field and needed further guidance. The idea for using podcasts grew from the need to reach a growing number of trained internal consultants.

Although the first podcasts were directed toward ProAct's internal consultants, the topics grew into more general interest for safety, the company said. Because podcasts are available to anyone who can find them online, more and more listeners and subscribers began to follow the topics. According to ProAct, when it asked for additional ideas, subscribers flooded the company's e-mail with topics to address. The podcasts are now designed to assist organizations in achieving or sustaining Safety Culture Excellence.

Since January 2008, ProAct has delivered weekly podcasts to safety professionals around the world in more than 30 categories. The company said its "Safety Culture Excellence" podcast, which Galloway hosts, has grown into a widely-used tool and one of the most popular safety podcasts offered via iTunes. In addition to this morning's recording, the company is demonstrating its services at booth 737.
