OSHA Teams with LSU to Promote Oil & Gas Industry Safety

OSHA and Louisiana State University Continuing Education have signed an agreement to combine resources for educating and training workers on safety and health in the oil and gas industry.

"We welcome this opportunity to join with Louisiana State University to provide information, guidance, and training to workers in the oil and gas industry," said Dorinda Folse, OSHA's area director in Baton Rouge, La. "We are hopeful this cooperative effort to promote safety and health in the workplace will prevent injuries, illnesses, and fatalities."

Under this agreement, OSHA and LSU Continuing Education will work together to deliver workplace safety and health courses, specifically focusing on related hazard awareness and the recognition and benefits of an effective safety and health management system. The training also will serve to provide for a more skilled workforce and maximize worker safety, OSHA said.

The mission of LSU Continuing Education is to identify, create, and support lifelong learning through quality programs that are timely, capitalize on the university's expertise, and address educational needs with both credit and noncredit programs. Employers and employees with questions about this or other OSHA alliances or partnerships may call the agency's Baton Rouge Area Office at 225-298-5458.
