The DOT summit on the topic will start Sept. 30, but you can submit comments or questions now via www.regulations.gov.

The Sept. 30-Oct. 1 Distracted Driving Summit called by DOT Secretary Ray LaHood will take place at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C., and the public can watch it via webcast. But it's possible to submit comments and questions now.

To submit a comment or question, you must identify it by DOT Docket ID Number RITA 2009-0003. Submit it via www.regulations.gov or in one of these ways:

  • Mail to: Docket Management Facility: U.S. Department of Transportation, 1200 New Jersey Ave. SE, West Building Ground Floor, Room W12-140, Washington, DC 20590-0001.
  • Hand Delivery or courier to: West Building Ground Floor, Room W12-140, 1200 New Jersey Ave. SE between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EDT weekdays (except Sept. 7).
  • Fax to: 202-493-2251.

Participants in the summit will be transportation officials, safety advocates, law enforcement representatives, academics, and others involving in road and driving safety. The event's Twitter page, http://twitter.com/DistractDriving, says the meeting's agenda will be posted there after Labor Day.
