Uncle Sam Welcomes Returning Facilities Chief

When 1 million federal workers want to complain to their landlord, Bob Peck will again be behind the desk in the top of the pyramid. GSA's new commissioner of Public Buildings will oversee an annual budget of more than $8 billion and more than 6,200 employees.

The U.S. General Services Administration this week announced the appointment of Bob Peck to serve as commissioner of Public Buildings, meaning he will lead one of the largest real estate organizations in the world. GSA said Peck will oversee an annual budget of more than $8 billion and more than 6,200 employees, with responsibility for nationwide asset management, design, construction, leasing, building management, security, and disposals for 354 million square feet of government-owned and -leased space accommodating 1 million federal workers.

Peck had the same job during the Clinton administration. "I look forward to returning as the commissioner of Public Buildings, the best job in real estate, and to getting back to creating public buildings worthy of the American people," he said in GSA's news release. "I am grateful for the opportunity to come back to help lead GSA's important role in fulfilling the president's recovery agenda."

Peck most recently served as managing director of Jones Lang LaSalle. He has worked at the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Federal Communications Commission during his career, GSA said.
