Risk Manager Named ASSE CoPS Safety Professional of the Year

The American Society of Safety Engineers has named Christine Sullivan, ARM, CSP, of Littleton, Colo., as the recipient of the 2009 Council on Practices and Standards (CoPS) Safety Professional of the Year award, citing her continued support of the occupational safety and health profession and her ongoing effort to protect people, property, and the environment.

The CoPS SPY award recognizes achievement of a safety professional in the specialized areas of ASSE’s Practice Specialties and pays tribute to the recipient’s outstanding accomplishments in these areas. Practice Specialties include: academics, construction, consultants, engineering, environmental, fire protection, healthcare, industrial hygiene, international, management, manufacturing, mining, oil & gas, public sector, risk management/insurance (RM/I), and transportation.

Sullivan, an active professional member of ASSE who serves on its Council on Professional Development as well as the RM/I and Management Practice Specialties, is vice president - risk control services manager at Lockton Companies LLC in Denver. She is a member of the ASSE Colorado Chapter and currently serves as editor for the RM/I Practice Specialty technical bulletin. Last year, she received the ASSE RM/I SPY award and also chaired the Professional Development Conference committee.

CoPS SPY recipients are evaluated within five categories: demonstrated knowledge and expertise; practice specialty/ASSE activities; professional contributions; leadership/management; and endorsement from respective Practice Specialty leadership. In addition, the CoPS SPY recipient is then nominated by CoPS for ASSE’s Edgar Monsanto Queeny SPY the following year. For 2009, that award went to Lt. Col. James Jennings, CSP, of Fort Campbell, Ky., who currently serves as safety officer for the 101st Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division in the U.S. Army.
