80th Annual Municipal Fire Training School Begins Monday

The TEEX event in College Station, Texas, began in 1930. The 47th Annual Industrial Fire Training School wraps up today, and the 43rd Annual Spanish Fire Training School was held July 6-10.

The 47th Annual Industrial Fire Training School, the second of three Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) Annual Summer Fire Training Schools, wraps up today, with 466 firefighters from refineries and other industrial sites nationwide having received one week of training at Brayton Fire Training Field in College Station, Texas. This sets the stage for July 20-24's 80th Annual Municipal Fire Training School, the largest such school in the world, according to TEEX, and an event that will include thousands of firefighters and hundreds of guest instructors. The month began with the 43rd Annual Spanish Fire Training School, held July 6-10.

The Municipal Fire School started in 1930 as part of the Texas A&M University chemistry department and attracted 196 firefighters from 76 cities and towns. The following year, the Texas Legislature authorized Texas A&M to create and operate a permanent firefighter training school in College Station. TEEX trains more than 80,000 firefighters and emergency responders annually with its facilities.
