AIHA Awards First Social Responsibility Award

Among the many awards and recognitions bestowed last week in Toronto at AIHce 2009, this one was a first: AIHA awarded its inaugural Social Responsibility Award on June 2 to K.P. Nyati, president of Sustainability Solutions India, which is located in Delhi. The recipient accepted and expressed his thanks in a short video shown during Tuesday's opening session.

"AIHA recognizes that we live in an interconnecting, global world," former AIHA President Don Hart said in announcing the winner. "We have long felt that it was time to recognize individuals and organizations for their efforts."

Bureau Veritas North America sponsors the award and first proposed it last year. Executive VP Bob Donze and Mitch Blada, CIH, from the company were on hand to make the presentation. Blada said Nyati is the catalyst for this organization's efforts focused on closed-loop environmental sustainability.

"I proudly accept this award, though I still believe I don't deserve it," Nyati said in the video. "But it's still a great honor to be the first recipient of the Bureau Veritas Sustainability Award."
