Pre-Conference Workshops, Training Await Early Arrivals

Attendees planning to make the most of AIHce 2009 by arriving for the weekend preceding the conference proper will be able to take advantage of a number of pre-conference offerings scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, May 30-31. The weekend sessions will feature a variety of professional development courses (PDCs), including the returning attendee-rated “Top 10” courses on Bayesian statistics, noise control engineering, hearing protection, biological monitoring, exposure assessment strategies and statistics, and more. The PDC program includes half-day, full-day, and two-day sessions.

For participants planning to take the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) exam, AIHce is again offering its popular advanced preparation workshop. This three-day course begins on Friday and covers the three areas of the CSP exam—engineering, management, and information management and communications. Attendees will practice solving analytical problems and will review test-taking strategy, test format, scoring procedures, and recent exam results.

Other highlights of the opening weekend include a pair of two-day management courses. The introductory course, “Improving Communication Effectiveness for the IH Manager and OEHS Professional,” is designed to help new managers develop the necessary skills. For those who have some management experience, the intermediate-level “Finanace for the Nonfinancial Manager” is offered.

Throughout the conference, attendees can earn up to 6.5 CM points by choosing from more than 200 weekend PDCs and weekday technical sessions. For a complete lineup of course offerings, visit www.aiha.org/aihce09/docs/preconf-courses.pdf. Weekend courses will be held in both the north and south buildings of the Toronto Convention Centre. Beginning Monday, June 1, all AIHce activities will be held in the south building.
