EPA Seeks 23 'Most Wanted' Fugitives for Environmental Crimes
Defendants charged with environmental crimes or violations of the U.S. Federal Criminal Code sometimes flee the court's jurisdiction and/or the United States rather than face prosecution or to serve a sentence. When these circumstances occur, the defendants become fugitives from justice.
Wanted posters identifying 20 of the 23 fugitives sought by the EPA's Criminal Investigation Division are posted at www.epa.gov/fugitives/. Brief case summaries for all 23, along with instructions on how to report information related to their identity and/or current location, are also listed at the site.
The alleged violations include everything from the illegal transportation, treatment, and disposal of hazardous waste and other pollutants to conspiracy and mail fraud. EPA notes that if you should not attempt to apprehend any of the individuals, but if you have information about any of the fugitives you should report it to your local police or, if you are outside the United States, to the nearest U.S. Embassy.
