NIOSH Updates Guide for Inexpensive Public Health Programs
NIOSH Publication No. 2008-148: Guidelines for Minimum and Comprehensive State-Based Public Health Activities in Occupational Safety and Health were posted Dec. 30 by NIOSH. The document is dated September 2008 and provides guidance for developing various state-based public health programs for preventing occupational illnesses and injuries.
It updates a 1995 publication and was prepared by members of the Occupational Health Surveillance Workgroup of the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE).
NIOSH said the 18-page document lists minimum recommended state-level approaches for public health activities "that can be performed at a minimal cost using existing staff and data." The comprehensive state-level approaches suggest areas for expansion as resources become available.
