NPPTL Employee Wins ASTM Leadership Award
ASTM International has awarded one of two 2008 President's Leadership Awards to Angie Shepherd, general engineer at NIOSH's National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory in Pittsburgh. Shepherd, who joined ASTM International in 2005, is vice chair of Committee F23 on Personal Protective Clothing and Equipment and a technical liaison between the committee and NPPTL.
The award recognizes professionals early in their ASTM career who have significantly advanced the society's mission through extraordinary accomplishment, example, and vision. This year's other recipient is Richard Peri, vice president of government and industry affairs at the Aircraft Electronics Association in Washington, D.C. They are the first recipients of the new award, which was established in 2007.
Shepherd received her bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and textile chemistry from North Carolina State University in 1997, then went to work for DuPont Polyester in Hopewell, Va., as a quality and process engineer. She moved in 1999 to the staff at Underwriters Laboratories in Research Triangle Park, N.C., as a senior project engineer, and in 2005 took her current position at NIOSH, according to ASTM.
