NIOSH to Revoke Approvals of Global Secure Respirators

Users of Global Security Safety Products Inc. respirators should be aware of a NIOSH notice that says the agency will revoke the Certificates of Approval for respirators made by Global Secure Safety Products., Inc., on Dec. 31, 2009. The company "is no longer producing NIOSH-approved respirators or replacement parts and is not planning to resume production in the future. Global Secure Safety Products, Inc. stopped production of respirators in April 2008 and has ceased doing business," the Nov. 21 notice states.

Global Secure Safety Products, Inc. (formerly named CairnsAir Inc. or Neoterik) respirators will be listed as obsolete on the NIOSH certified list of approved products.

"Revoked status means that the respirators in question will no longer be listed as NIOSH-approved respirators. Once revoked, respirators bearing these approval numbers may no longer be manufactured, assembled, sold, or distributed as NIOSH-approved respirators. Furthermore, they may not be used where NIOSH-approved respirators are required regardless of the current state of maintenance," the notice says.
