ASHI Offers Improved Basic First Aid Training Package

The Eugene, Ore.-based American Safety and Health Institute released an improved Basic First Aid for the Community and Workplace package of training materials today. Offered to current and new instructors at special prices through Dec. 19, the offering includes an Instructor Package with an enhanced DVD and a choice of a print or digital book for students.

"We're really trying to respond to instructor needs," said Jon Caplan, marketing vice president for the Health & Safety Institute family of brands, which includes ASHI and MEDIC First Aid International. He said the last time the Basic First Aid products were updated was in 2005, when the American Heart Association updated its CPR guidelines.

About 12,000 to 15,000 ASHI instructors currently provide training, Caplan said.

The new package includes an updated Instructor Guide and PowerPoint presentation with 286 slides, up from about 70 in the previous version. The Student Handbook is presented in a two-column format with breakout boxes to be easily followed, and the 77-minute DVD covers 61 first aid topics -- three times more than were covered in the previous version. Caplan said the DVD includes a more extension discussion of treating amputation injuries, more material on specific types of animal bites and insect stings, more about joint and muscle injuries, and additional new material.

"Our Instructors have asked for product improvements, and we are very excited to release this updated training materials package for ASHI," CEO Bill Clendenen said. "This new edition of Basic First Aid represents our dedication to provide high-quality products at a tremendous value."
