OSHA Forms Alliance with Alaska-based Oil & Gas Companies

Establishing an agreement to promote safer work practices, improve health performance, and address the benefits of employees who incorporate safety and health on the job are the goals of a new alliance among OSHA, Union Oil Co. of California, Peak Oilfield Service Co., Nabors Alaska Drilling Inc., CUDD Pressure Control Inc., McKinley Service and Equipment Inc., and ESS Support Services.

"This alliance was formed because OSHA and the oil and gas industry recognize the value of establishing a collaborative relationship to foster safer and more healthful American workplaces," said Scott Ketcham, OSHA's area director in Anchorage. "By disseminating information, accessing training resources, and providing guidance, this alliance will improve the safety and health performance of employees."

The alliance agreement consists of three main components: training and education goals where information is disseminated in order to stay current with developments and changes in the field; outreach and communication goals including speaking, exhibiting, or appearing at OSHA's and alliance members' conferences, local meetings, and other events; and promoting a national dialogue on workplace safety and health by publicizing the results of case studies illustrating the business value of safety and health.

The implementation team will be made up of representatives from OSHA and the five oil and gas groups and one support service company named above. The team will conduct quarterly visits to the participating facilities and the Anna and King Salmon Platforms in the Cook Inlet.
