AIHA Offers 'Particle Size-Selective Sampling' Webinar

The American Industrial Hygiene Association will host "Particle Size-Selective Sampling: What You Need To Know About Human Health Impacts," an intermediate TeleWeb Virtual Seminar on Nov. 6, 2008, from 2-4:30 p.m. ET.

According to AIHA, progress in our understanding of interactions between aerosolized particles and different regions of the human respiratory system spurred the emergence of the ACGIH/CEN/ISO particle size-selective health-related aerosol size fractions (respirable, thoracic, and inhalable) and sampling conventions. Performance characteristics of several personal inhalable, thoracic, and respirable samplers will be discussed and compared with those of the 37-mm cassettes. Issues related to typical use of these samplers will be reviewed.

Featured speakers include Vitally Aizenberg, Ph.D., CIH, CSP, senior environmental and regulatory advisor, ExxonMobil; Erica Jones, MS, industrial hygienist, ExxonMobil; and Aleks Stefaniak, Ph.D., CIH, research industrial hygienist, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

Attendees will be provided with tools to enable them to:

  • Understand the concept of aerosol size-selective sampling and its relation to human health
  • Identify and discuss instrumentation for inhalable, thoracic, and respirable sampling
  • Describe nontraditional applications of some size-selective samplers
