CPSC Chief of Staff Resignation Effective Oct. 1

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Acting Chairman Nancy A. Nord recently announced that Quin Dodd will be leaving his position as CPSC Chief of Staff, effective Oct. 1. She also announced that Joseph Martyak, her Counsel, will assume the position of Chief of Staff at that time.

"The CPSC and I have been very fortunate to have benefited from Quin's experience and leadership, especially during this time of such challenge and change for the agency," Nord said. "Quin has been a key member of the senior CPSC leadership team providing input and guidance during the drafting of the landmark Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, which became law on Aug. 14, 2008. I have relied on his judgment, knowledge, and counsel, and I thank him for his dedicated service to me, this agency, and the American people."

Dodd will be joining the consumer product safety practice group of the Washington law office of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky, and Popeo, P.C. Prior to coming to the agency in 2005, Dodd, a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, served in various capacities in the field of federal legislative practice and advocacy in Washington, D.C. He was a founder and principal of the American Capitol Group, a Washington-based government relations firm, was Legislative Director for U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, and was Counsel for the late U.S. Representative Joe Skeen.

Prior to becoming Counsel for Chairman Nord in 2008, Martyak served in several government, private sector, and non-profit positions, including: Associate Administrator for Public Affairs at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; Deputy Undersecretary at the U.S. Department of the Interior; General Manager, Golin/Harris International (Washington); Executive Vice-President for Marketing, Communications and Public Policy for the American Legacy Foundation; and Vice-President for Corporate Affairs for two global corporations. Martyak is also a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center.

"I am confident that Joe's considerable experience will help me guide the agency through its significant transition," Nord added.
