2008 ACEP Workforce Study Examining Nurse Staffing Issues

The third national Workforce Study by the American College of Emergency Physicians is under way, with several allied organizations supporting the effort. Survey responses are due by Sept. 30.

This survey is the first in the series to examine emergency department nurse staffing issues, according to ACEP. Supporting organizations are the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, the Emergency Nurses Association, the Council of Emergency Medical Residency Directors, GE Healthcare, the Emergency Medicine Foundation, and the Emergency Medicine Residents' Association. The study is intended to describe the current status of the emergency medical workforce in the United States and to support ACEP's discussions with legislators, government officials, regulatory agencies, and the media about workforce issues.

The survey forms have been mailed to randomly selected hospital EDs to be completed by the ED medical director and the nurse manager (two different and complementary surveys). For more information, visit www.acep.org.
