European Chemicals Agency Sets First REACH Stakeholder Day

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is preparing to host industry associations and non-governmental organizations for its first Stakeholder Day in co-operation with the European Commission on Oct. 10 at Finlandia Hall in Helsinki, Finland. The program will cover pre-registration and other data submission processes to the agency, substances of very high concern, and ECHA's dialogue with stakeholders and third countries. ECHA manages and carries out the technical, scientific, and administrative aspects of REACH, a new EU classification scheme for chemicals.

The draft program and registration information are available at http://echa.europa.eu/news/events/1st_stakeholders_day_en.asp. Attendees must register by Sept. 5.

The European Chemicals Agency became operational on June 1, 2008, when the implementation of most processes in REACH -- particularly pre-registration, registration, and authorization -- started. One of the main objectives for ECHA is to develop efficient channels of communication, dialogue, and engagement with stakeholders. The agency´s stakeholders' days will be recurring events for the stakeholders to learn about new developments, ask questions, and share their views on REACH implementation. For more information about ECHA, visit http://echa.europa.eu/home_en.asp.
