Partnership Focused on Loss Control, Training in West Texas

Enhanced workplace safety for employees is the goal of a new partnership signed by OSHA and El Paso-based Safety Program Specialist (SPS) Employer Risk Management Inc.

"This agreement provides an opportunity for OSHA and SPS to work together to create a comprehensive safety and health training program emphasizing employer awareness of hazardous working conditions," said Richard Tapio, OSHA's area director in Lubbock, Texas. "We are pleased that SPS is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for its employees."

SPS was founded in November 2007 and provides services for more than 25 companies in West Texas and Southern New Mexico. Services include loss control and safety training in both construction and general industry. To date, the following El Paso-based companies, engaged in various trades and general contracting, have signed on to the partnership: Schatzman Co., Amistad Plumbing, Payless Plumbing, Cisco Homes, and Carefree Homes.

The SPS pact, announced Tuesday, is the latest cooperative effort in OSHA's Strategic Partnership Program. More than 1.4 million employees and more than 26,000 employers across the United States have participated with the agency in more than 530 strategic partnerships since the program began in 1998.
